THEY SAID THE SIGNAL WAS PROBABLY NOTHING. THEY SAID TO CHECK IT OUT ANYWAY. THEY ARE NOT HERE WITH YOU NOW.
You know the franchise. You know what lives in the dark. Now sit down on the wrong side of the screen and find out what it actually feels like when the motion tracker starts beeping and nobody comes when you call. ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game Evolved Edition is the official licensed RPG of the ALIEN universe, built by Free League Publishing on their Year Zero Engine. Gold ENNIE 2020 winner for Best Game. Updated and expanded in 2025 with streamlined rules, life path character creation, and everything the community asked for over five years of play.
Never played a tabletop RPG before? This is a fine place to start. The rules are straightforward. The situation is not.
Perfect for: Fans of the films who want to actually be in one, horror players who want a licensed universe with teeth, and anyone who wants to know what it feels like to make a decision under pressure with imperfect information and something in the vents.
🎒 What to bring
- Yourself
- A rough idea of who you want to play: colonial marine, roughneck, company rep, android, medic. All of them are mortal
- Willingness to make bad decisions under good pressure
🎁 What we provide
- Pre-generated characters or life path character creation at the table, whichever you prefer
- All dice, including the custom base dice and Stress dice
- The book
- 3 – 4 hours in the ALIEN universe, cinematic mode, which means the stakes are real and the session has a beginning, middle, and end
⚙️ How it plays
- Dice pool system. Roll a number of six-sided dice equal to your Attribute plus Skill. Any 6 is a success. One success is enough. Push your roll for a second chance, but every die that comes up 1 adds Stress.
- Stress and Panic. Stress adds extra dice to your pool, which sounds good until you remember that every 1 on those dice adds more Stress. When Stress triggers a Panic Roll, consult the table. Results range from shaken to catatonic, and Panic spreads. One crew member losing it affects everyone at the table.
- Two modes of play. Campaign mode for ongoing stories. Cinematic mode for one-shots: pre-written scenarios, higher lethality, a built-in arc, and the genuine possibility that not everyone makes the credits roll.
- The Game Mother runs the session. They describe the world, control everything that isn’t a player character, and do not tell you what you cannot see.
- Life path character creation builds your background through a series of choices: career, key event, relationships, and personal agenda. Every character arrives at the table with a history and a reason to be in the room.
- Personal agendas. Each character has a secret objective that may or may not align with the rest of the crew. Trust is a resource.
- Stealth, zero gravity, and violent encounters all run on distinct procedures. The game slows down when things get dangerous, which makes them feel dangerous.
- The ALIEN universe runs on corporate logic. Weyland-Yutani does not care about you. The mission parameters may not reflect the actual mission.
🏆 What you take home
