Dragonbane is a Swedish RPG with roots going back to 1982, rebuilt from the ground up by Free League. Percentile skills, fast combat, death is possible but not the point. Duck-people are a core playable species.

Perfect for: Players who want a complete fantasy RPG that teaches itself at the table.

⚙️ How it plays

• Attributes are rolled with a D20, skills with a D100. Roll under to succeed.
• Push: failed a roll? Reroll it. But the GM rolls on the mishap table. Worth it? Sometimes.
• Combat uses initiative cards drawn from a deck. Fast, unpredictable, easy to run.
• Hit zero HP and you start making death rolls each round. Stabilize fast or that is that.
• Skills advance organically: mark them on a success, roll at end of session to see if they improve.
• Magic is school-based. Pick a school, learn spells, manage willpower. No spell slots.
• Playable kin: Humans, Dwarves, Elves, Halflings, Wolfkin and Mallards (ducks, yes, fully playable)
