Beak, Feather, & Bone is a collaborative worldbuilding game and competitive map-labeling RPG by Tyler Crumrine. Starting with an unlabeled city map, players take on community roles and then take turns claiming and describing its buildings. A draw from a standard 52-card deck determines each building's purpose; players then define its beak (reputation), feather (appearance), and bone (interior). As the map fills in, a living portrait of the city emerges β its major NPCs, its power struggles, and its character β built entirely through play.
Default play is lightly competitive, but the zine also includes rules variants for solo, cooperative, and character-focused sessions. The illustrations and GM notes are written with a ravenfolk (kenku, tengu, etc.) city in mind, but the beak/feather/bone labeling system works with any map, any genre, and any setting.
To play you will need a standard 52-card deck, note cards, and writing utensils β none of which are included in the physical product.
